The very first step in getting an EV rebate, is to create an account on the application portal. Once you are signed up, you will need to provide some basic contact info including name, phone number, and address. You also must show proof of a driver's license and current Colorado residency. To learn about the specific types of documentation that is accepted, you can visit the VXC website. Once the application is submitted, it will be reviewed within 10 business days. If your application is approved, a rebate will be issued to you. Rebate recipients have ninety calendar days to redeem them. Only one rebate per tax household is available at this time. Recipients may only redeem their rebates at participating automobile dealers in Colorado, which includes us here at Valley Subaru!

To qualify for a VXC rebate you must be a resident of Colorado, 18 years of age or older, income-qualified, eligible to purchase or lease a vehicle in Colorado, and own an eligible old or high-emitting vehicle. A valid Colorado driver license is also required. The application process includes you giving proof of a current physical Colorado address.  Acceptable proof of address documents include things like a cuurent Colorado driver's license, a utility bill, a bank statement, pay stub, or current insurance policy. The other part of qualifying is to meet the income eligibility requirements, which is determined by income and household size. To meet the income-qualifications for the VXC rebate, your household income needs to be below 80% of the area median income (AMI). You will need to provide proof of income documentation, which includes last 6 months of pay stubs or first page of your 2022 Federal tax form 1040 or proof of enrollment is programs such as CARE, WAP, RTD, SSDI, WIC, LEAP, SNAP, or SSI.  To find out if your income qualifies, contact the VXC program, or give us a call here ar Valley Subaru, and we can walk you through the steps!

Another part of getting a VXC program rebate is that you must have a qualifying vehicle to exchange. Coloradan's old or high-emitting vehicle must meet certain requirements. These include the vehicle must be gasoline- or diesel-powered and operational. It also must be at least 12 years old OR it fails an emissions test in Colorado. The vehicle title must be issued solely to the participant and currently titled in Colorado. It cannot have a lien and must be currently registered under the participant's name with the Colorado DMV. Hybrid vehicles, motorcycles, recreational vehicles (RVs), campers, and boats are not eligible to exchange through VXC at this time.

Once you are issued a rebate, the next step is to determine which vehicle you would like to purchase!  Both Battery electric (BEV), and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) qualify for the program. The new electric vehicle also must have an MSRP of $80,000 or less. For a used electric vehicle (battery electric or plug-in hybrid electric), the final negotiated purchase price must be $50,000 or less (not include destination charges, optional items, or taxes and fees).
